Who can use NEPTS?

NEPTS is only available to people who need support because of their health condition and cannot get to an appointment any other way. The NHS has set rules that decide who can use the service.

The NHS rules are for people who have one or more of the following;

  1. Medical Needs
    • Require oxygen, monitoring or medical equipment during travel
    • Can't travel safely using other transport due to medical conditions or dignity concerns
    • Have communicable diseases or are immunocompromised and can't travel via public means. 
  2. Cognitive or Sensory Impairment
    • Dementia, significant mental health conditions or sensory impairments, or conditions that make independent travel unsafe or impossible. 
  3. Mobility Challenges 
    • Need a stretcher to travel lying down or use a wheelchair without being able to self-mobilise. 
  4. Haemodialysis Patients 
    • Transport provided based on a shared decision-making process. 
  5. Safeguarding Concerns
    • Patients requiring oversight to ensure sdafety during travel. 
  6. Wider Needs
    • Eligibility may extend to patients with complex or frequent treatment needs, long distance travel or with a lack of affordable alternatives. 

How to book your transport

Transport should be booked atleast 2 days before your appointment. To book you will need the following information to hand:

  • NHS Number 
  • Date of Birth
  • GP Surgery name and location
  • Full home address with postcode 
  • Contact telephone number
  • Your mobility needs (i.e. do you use a wheelchair or do you need to travel lying down)
